Here are some of the door maintenance procedures you may want to get done this spring season.
Spring is a time of year when a lot of homeowners like to get home projects done. After all, the weather is much more pleasant, which sets the stage perfectly for completing such projects around your house. One task you might want to complete this season is to check on your doors to make sure they’re still in optimal condition. Here are some of the door maintenance procedures you may want to get done this spring season.
Look for Gaps in Your Doors
Part of your door maintenance routine should include checking for any gaps that your doors may have. If there are gaps in your doors, they will allow outdoor air to get into the house. This makes it more difficult to regulate the temperature inside of your home. As a result, you’ll be spending more money on your energy bill to keep your house comfortable. Sealing your doors with weatherstripping or caulk will keep outdoor air away so that your house can be more energy-efficient.
Lubricate Moving Components
Maybe your door hinges have gotten a bit squeaky. If this is the case, it’s probably because they aren’t sufficiently lubricated. This can be a problem, not just because it’s bothersome, but it can also wear your hardware down more quickly. Therefore, another part of door maintenance should involve lubricating these components. A silicone-based lubricant should be sufficient in order to reduce friction between the different pieces of hardware that your door has.
Check Your Door Screens
Do you have torn or otherwise damaged door screens? If you do, see if those screens can be repaired back to normal. If the damage is too extensive, you’ll likely have to get those screens replaced. Spring is a time of year when you likely want to get some refreshing outdoor air into your house. The problem is that damaged screens can let all sorts of bugs into your house. By replacing the screens of your doors, you can let refreshing spring breezes come through your house without worrying about pests getting inside.
