Spring Cleaning Tips for Composite Decking

When cleaning composite decking for the spring season, here is what you’ll need to do.

Are you interested in getting a new wood deck for your property, but you don’t want to deal with the maintenance that comes with one?  If so, then composite decking can be the perfect solution for you. Composite decks can duplicate the look of wood seamlessly, and these decks don’t come with the same maintenance requirements as wooden ones.

With that said, that doesn’t mean you can just completely ignore your deck all season long. There will still be maintenance procedures that need to be done, and the procedures you need to follow will depend on the time of year. When cleaning composite decking for the spring season, here is what you’ll need to do.

Pre-Cleaning Preparation

Before you can start the cleaning process, you must get your composite decking ready to be cleaned. You can take a broom or leaf blower to remove some pesky debris that could get in the way of cleaning. Furniture should also be moved at this time.

All the while, you want to take a garden hose and give your composite decking a pre-rinsing. This way, loose grime will be taken off of your deck before the true cleaning begins.

Scrub Down Your Composite Decking

Using a soft-bristled brush, you should scrub down your composite decking. This should be done after you apply a composite deck cleaning solution. Always brush with the grain, not against it, if you want to get the best results during the cleaning process. Remember to not ignore the gaps in your deck boards, as well as the deck corners and railing.

Give Your Composite Decking a Final Rinsing

After you’ve scrubbed your composite decking thoroughly, take your garden hose and rinse your deck off again. This is done to remove any soapy residue that might still be on the deck’s surface. When rinsing off your deck, it’s also important to not apply too much water pressure. Otherwise, your deck boards are going to get damaged, which can harm the structural integrity that your deck has.
