Quick Home Fixes to Make Before the Holidays

quick home fixes

Patching up your drywall is one of the many quick and easy home fixes you can do before the holidays!

The cousins and aunts and uncles are all getting ready to pile into the car and drive to your home for the holidays—but wait! Do you have everything done? Chances are, the answer is no way. Here are some quick home fixes you can make before the holidays to get your home in great shape for festivities and guests.

Repair Holes in the Drywall

This is an easy repair with a big impact on the first impression people will have when they enter your home. Gather fiberglass mesh tape, drywall compound, a putty knife, some sandpaper, a primer paint, and soft brushes. Cover the small hole with a piece of the mesh tape and use the putty knife to spread a thin even layer over the hole and in the immediate surrounding area. Use the sandpaper to smooth the surface until it is seamless and not noticeable. Once this is done, apply a second coat and wait for it to dry before sanding it. Once that’s done, use a paintbrush to apply some primer before repainting the wall to make it good as new.

Stop the Squeaking

A squeaky door is a nuisance if you live in the home and something embarrassing if you are a guest in a home getting up in the middle of the night for a midnight snack (or potty run). Squeaky doors have an incredibly easy quick home fix—grab a can of WD-40 and gently spray some onto the hinge. This will almost certainly fix the problem and silence that annoying squeaking.

A Sneeze-Inducing Chandelier

Don’t worry, dusty chandeliers happen to just about every homeowner. However, that doesn’t mean you want your guests itching their eyes and sneezing into your nice cloth napkins during Christmas dinner! Allow your chandelier to cool if it was turned on and use dusting cloths to remove any visible dust. Follow up with an appropriate cleaner for the material and take your time.
